New! Adult Sailing Lessons
Adult Sailing Lessons Course Outline
Adult Sailing Participation Agreement
Adult Sailing Lessons Application
Scope
The adult sailing programs goal is to have a group
of member sailors who will be qualified to check
out and sail the Flying Scot boats owned by the
club, non-members who have been introduced to sailing
on Tomales Bay.
Volunteer Adult Sailing Mentors from the club will instruct beginning and intermediate sailors in the Flying Scots. Each Mentor and adult sailor will sail together, during an instruction period, at times that they will schedule for their convenience. After an adult sailor has demonstrated the ability to launch, sail, and care for the Flying Scots, his/her Mentor will certify and add him/her to the list of qualified club sailors. If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact the chair of Adult Boating, Jim Monson.
Equipment
The boat is a Flying Scot, CF 3888 CE, "Blue Bonnet", parked on a trailer in the row of boats in the boatyard closest to the Bay.
Sails are stored in yellow bags kept in a rack next to the "crash" boat in the BoatHouse. Number 502 is the functioning set of main sail and jib. Jib sheets are attached to the jib.
Sailors and mentors should bring their own personal flotation devices.

Procedures
Sailors are to contact a mentor who is able to work
with them and arrange for a date to get together
for an instruction session. The IYC Membership Directory
contains contact information for Mentors and Sailors.
Each mentor is responsible for the certification
of the progress of the sailor(s) he/she is working
with. Note that the sailing skills are to be demonstrated
under the three levels of wind indicated on the
list.
It is very important to make entries for each sailing session in the adult sailing log, so that boat usage, maintenance problems, etc. can be monitored. In so far as possible, sailors will be involved in maintenance and repairs of the boat(s).
Before each use of a boat, a mentored or certified sailor must clear the use by contacting the Chair of Adult Boating: Jim Monson, or the Commodore: Banana, or the Port Captain: Tom Fox.3. After the sail, the user is responsible for washing down the boat, returning it to its proper place in the yard, securing it properly by tying down and making sure that it can drain, and for making an entry in the Adult Boating Log (on wall near Boatswain's Locker) noting sailing conditions and any needed boat maintenance.
